To Perform a Bulk Update to Objects

Follow these steps to simultaneously update multiple objects.

  1. Do one of the following:

    From the Basket, select the objects you want to update

    or

    From Search results, select the objects you want to update

    or

    From your Favorites, select the objects you want to update

    or

    From the Explorer select the objects you want to update.

    Note: If you are unable to select objects from Favorites or Explorer, ensure that Show checkboxes in trees is enabled. For more information, see To Set ALIM Web User Settings.
  2. From the Actions menu, select Data maintenance. The Bulk Update wizard opens. For example,
  3. Select one of the following:

    Approve/un-approve objects, and then go to Step 4.

    Note: This option applies to Documents and Virtual Item Groups only.

    or

    Delete objects, and then go to Step 7.

    Note: This option may not be undone.

    or

    Lock objects, and then go to Step 7.

    or

    Manage attribute security, and then go to Step 5.

    or

    Manage object security, and then go to Step 6.

    or

    Move files to repository group, and then go to Step 7.

    or

    Synchronize class attributes.

    Note: This option only applies to the current revision of either "Planned" or "Not Approved" documents.

    or

    Unlock objects, and then go to Step 7.

  4. To set the approval status, do the following

    Select Approved to set the approval status of the current version of selected Documents and Virtual Item Group objects only, to "Approved"

    or

    Select Not Approved to set the approval status of the current version of selected Documents and Virtual Item Group objects only, to "Not Approved".

    Note: Documents and Virtual Item Groups that are change controlled and "Approved", may not be set to Not Approved.

    When you are finished, go to Step 7.
  5. For each attribute that you want to manage its security, do the following:
    1. Select an Attribute kind from the list. Your options are: Documents, Events, Physical Items, Projects, Tags, ProjectWise references, and Virtual Item Groups.
    2. Enter or search for an Attribute name, and then click to add the security editor.
    When you are finished, go to Step 7.
  6. To adjust the security settings assigned to the selected objects, do the following:

    To add principals to the selection, or update the rights of existing principals, select Add/update security.

    Note: This operation may be performed on any object that supports security.

    or

    To remove all principals from the selection, thus removing protection from the selected objects, select Remove security.

  7. Click Start. The bulk update process begins, and applies the selected changes to the appropriate objects.
  8. You can view user jobs, to view the status of your bulk update job.
